Gta 2 .. Lagging!

i'am running gta 2 on a 256mb ram , 64mb card and 2.0 ghz celeron processor ...... ( the free downloadable copy at rockstar ) and when i turn off the frame rate limiter the game is like it runs on fast forward but at some places the game suddenly lags like hell & this remains for some time and then it goes back to normal.. i have norton internet security running but totally disabled!!

help!! its insulting my pc :P
 
try turning on the frame limiter. Kind of makes it playable. I remember on one of my older comps, when I could turn off the frame limiter and it was PERFECT. Instead of running at 30FPS or whatever the frame limiter brought it to, it ran at a perfect 60fps:D
 
It sounds like you could use a little more ram along with a better video card. A boost to 512mb anyways even to 1gb and a good 128mb video card would certainly see an improvement in gaming.

That has absolutely nothing to do with his problem. Do you even know what GTA 2 is? It's Grand Theft Auto 2. A game by Rockstar games here in the US. It runs just fine on most comps with 128 mb ram and a 32 mb vid card.

Yes I do know what it is and the minimum system requirements. But it has also seen a few changes in graphics.

Updating video and sound drivers as well as increasing memory capacity will often improve performances. :D
 
PC Eye, have you ever played GTA2? The graphics on it are terrible, upgrading to 1GB wont make any difference to the game. And yes, the graphics have improved...since GTA1

they just made the textures a LOT better than GTA1. GTA2 ran perfect on my old HP. 566mhz Celeron, 64mb of ram, and a 11mb integrated vid card.
 
what are you guys talking about? if i turn off the frame rate the game is'nt even playable .. it exceeds 180fps or so .. its running in fast forward

You could try turning down the graphics acceleration to see if that has any effect on this. If you can locate a support link try going through the FAQ section to see if there is anything there. Often the older games will see problems depending hardware and software environments alike where you may to custom tweak some setting(s) or even disable something.

Not on this game :) Just becuase a review says something.....means nothing....considering it was made in year 2000....
 
A couple of times I've had to actually reformat a drive and reinstalled a game that saw sudden speed ups where something was caught in a loop. On a fresh formatted drive the problems vanished. That was seen a few years back on a 98SE machine there. Some of the games out around 98-2000 or even later could be a headache like I mentioned earlier with different hardware and software environments. A bad install or corrupted game files can also play havoc.
 
thats such a basic game; something sounds seriously off there. I would take a look at driver issues and make sure that your graphics card drivers are installed
 
It could be just one simple thing causing this. Or you may have a configuration problem to work out. It does sound more like the game's own files are goofed however. Which version of Windows are you running?
