GTA IV Updates released - Steam and Retail versions

Updates to Grand Theft Auto IV have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Rockstar Games Social Club

* Remove Rockstar Games Social Club application
* Separate RGSC application no longer required to launch game
* Social Club login now occurs during the launch process


Shadows

* A new, less memory-intensive, and better-looking scalable shadow solution has been implemented
* Enhanced Night Shadows added with user-selectable level of detail (replaces Shadow Density)


Performance

* Rendering optimizations have been made to improve performance, particularly when enabling shadows
* User-configurable graphics settings have been added for shadow control
* Improved memory management


Multiplayer

* Enhanced security to isolate users from cheaters and hackers


Episodic Content

* Provide in-game support to purchase "The Lost and Damned" and "The Ballad of Gay Tony"


Bug Fixes

* Vehicle shadows re-enabled between 8pm and 6am
* Fix floating street textures
* Pedestrians in vehicles appear further out from the player to allow for long range sniping
* The Moon has been implemented with simulated lunar phases
* RESC 10" error fix for specific hardware configurations

Thank god! And this is no less than a week after i sold my copy because the game was too buggy and bloated -_-

I think i will be buying this again.

And this update is for both steam and retail versions. Not sure about consoles...
 
Hmm i would not know. personally i don't deal with dual video cards, and it makes life a lot easier :D

Only bad thing is that, at least according to the author, ENB Series will not be made compatible with this new update. I wouldn't go back to the default graphics now that I've seen what the game looks like with the ENB mod, so I'm not going to update.
 
So does it realy look any better guys?

Ive not played it for ages,dont even have it installed atm.
Im glad Social club is gone,It was a pain in the rear,I never once used it!

Whats with the Flickering in the clips...ive noticed this alot in GTA IV clips on YT.
 
I am sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a question. If I were to buy the new GTA Episodes From Libert City, do I need the GTA 4 to play it????

No you don't, they are two stand -alone games.

Update looks good! Do I have to install all of them or can I just do the latest one?

And I think they removed social club because now the other GTA's are out.
 
I hope they either remake VC or do another story there. They've done like 4 with liberty city now (gta iii, gta iv and episodes from liberty city). Or they must do somewhere complety different, like russia :)

Is this patch 1.0.6.0?
 
Oooh didn't realise this was out. Saw steam updating but didn't think it would be anything useful. :P

I think I'll have a check, see what it's like now.

I'd love a revisit to vice city or a new sunny and tropical area. I'm getting really bored of gray, mundane run down cities. :P
 
Just tried the update....its improved loading times ALOT for me...much faster and the graphics looks better,especialy at night....i hated it when it went night in game before the patch because it was hard to see some things :cool:

But its a good patch :)
 
Cool... looks like i'll be buying the game (again) when i can afford it... oh don't talk to me about money right now :(
 
For some reason it makes it incredibly more resource hogging? I've had to turn night shadows off/down completely and have the x16 thing down to x2.

Could it be because my drivers are out to date or because what?

Yeah ive noticed FPS go down a bit :/,Although it still plays around 35 ish FPS.....iirc it was around 50-55ish before so quite a drop,But it does look better and load faster so....
