GTA San Andreas

Hey...I have a....erm...shared....version of GTA San Andreas, and whenever I play it it's unbelievably laggy. I have 1gb of ram (see below), so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem. I thought maybe my hard drive space might be the problem, I had 1.5gigs left on the drive I was running it from, so I moved it over to my brand new 160gb drive. I tried playing it, and it still lags. I don't have this problem with my...shared....version of GTA Vice City. Is it possible it's the software? Or is it my ram or hard drive or what? My C Drive (master) has 4.75gb left, and the drive where San Andreas currently is ha 129gb free.

Thanks for your help.

Having so little space on your main drive can't help. Having PC2700 RAM can't help. Having intergraged graphics DEFINETLY doesn't help...

Yeah...upgrading those are def on my to-do list :).

So should I try moving some files from my C: drive to my M: (160gb) drive?

i woudl most definately put it down to your lack hard drive space and the fact that you have an integrated graphics card... more so on the graphics.
i run San Andreas fine on my system.
the only problem i ever had with it was with my old DVD drive as the game disk couldnt be detected

Its probably your graphics, I used to have onboard and had the same probs, what settings you got turned on and what resolution you playing at?

Today I got my C: drive hard drive space to 20gb and it's still lagging like hell. My res is 1024 x 768 pixels. And for the game settings...I just leave it at default.

Your integrated video and ram is slowing you down, not really hard drive space. Lower the res to the lowest resoluation and lower the settings to the lowest possible. May not look pretty, but it will decrease the lag.

I managed to play the game on a Pentium 3 550mhz, 288mb ram (not sure how fast), Geforce 2 and it actually ran ok lol. Only when i went near forests it started to really lag.

Ok, so, I turned the color quality down to medium (16bit) and in GTA, turned the graphics down to 624 by something. The quality was horrible, but it ran fine.

Take it up to 32bit then, but on lowest resolution

I find it odd that I stumbled across this exact thread a few days ago when googling for something irralevent -- and I then randomly stumbled across this forum and realized it was on the same site.

In any event, I dont know why your game would be laggy with your specs. The only half-rational theory I can come up with is that a process is eating up CPU and memory resources -- try starting your computer in Directory Services mode (press F8 at startup (on mines atleast)) and see if that fixes it.

Oh I know why it's laggy at normal res, it's because I'm still using integrated graphics (hopefully not for long). Anyway, today I ran it at 32-bit 800x600 and it ran okay......every now and again it'd lag for a sec. or two, but that's it. the quality's crap, though :).
