Hey guys just wondering if anyone had an opinion for me..
Like an idiot I sold the better of my two rigs, now I am left with a so so system, that I had until just recently, forgotten why I had built a new computer from the start..
I am planning a new build for the new year, i have a budget, but in that budget includes a gtx 260 and phenom 9600 x4 (95w).. the thing is I only have a 530w PSU that I got with a Raidmax case.. I didn't think that would do the trick, and was hoping someone could inform me otherwise.. I really cant afford a new PSU, but the new CPU and GPU are a must..
I'm brand new to this forum so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place..
thanks..

Well for one thing, I would not get the Phenom 9600. Its the B2 stepping, has the TLB bug and doesnt really overclock that well. Thats why they are selling them so cheap. If you want a Phenom X4 get the B3 stepping, the 50 series. Like the Phenom 9550 or 9650. In my view for the price the 8750BE and 9950BE are the only 2 worth buying.

As far as the P/S I would have to know the name and model.

Crap, sorry I didn't even think they sold Phenom 9600's anymore or I would have pointed that bug out too. The 9650 doesn't have the bug like the guy above said, and that PSU would most likely work, but it only has 20A on the +12v rail. You would probably want to get one with something like 22A or 28A for a card like that.

If the P/S is what they claim it is, your right on the line, suppost to have around 40 amps on the 12V rails. The GTX 260 minimum recommend is 500W with 36 amps. The GTX 280 is 550W with 40 amps

Edit. If your not buying right now. The Phenom II is being released in about 2 weeks from what I heard. So the existing Phenom prices will probably drop.

Yeah i figured it would be a close call.. I thought that the gtx 260 alone would be ok but with a quad core, i though I could be in for trouble.. But as long as it works till I can buy a new one..
When it comes to the power supply I'm not that sure as to what to but, I know some things, but if you could point out a good one to buy that would not get divorced for.. lol
it would be much appreciated

I'm sure you know this by now, but that RAIDMAX PSU is junk. 12v x 20a is more like a decent 300w PSU. I would set that aside for a future build with only integrated graphics.

If you are extremely budget-confined, I'd get an 8750 BE. If you can afford to spend a little more, I'd wait and get the 9950. If you want something that's going to be really solid for a while, wait for the Denebs coming out. =)
