As title... Whats the better card... Is the GTX295's performance really that much better than the 4970x2 to justify the price?

Cheers

I'd get a GTX 285 over a 295 or 4870x2. Not all games support dual GPUs so they will not benifit from those cards. single GPU is the way to go.

If I end up doing this Ill be getting two of the cards (as quad GPU seems the max anything can do at the moment) It will cost me roughly $290 bucks extra to get the 295's over the 4870x2. Is it worth it.

Actually atm quad sli doesnt provide a whole lot of a performance boost in real world gameplay.. But i would say the 295's arent worth the premium over 4870x2..

Depending on how soon you want this card, it might be good to wait until a 4890X2 is released. I've seen benchmarks with (2)4890's CF against the 295 and they're pretty much neck in neck, one card beating the other depending on the bias the game has (Crysis for Nvidia etc) and there is good odds it will be cheaper than the 295. Even if it isn't, such a card would undoubtedly push Nvidia to make a price drop on the 295 to make it more appealing, in which case its a win-win if you feel like holding off.

As far as at the moment goes, 295 is significantly better than the 4870X2, but is overkill for pretty much life:P. The 4870X2 is a little more practical, while still being plenty powerful, albeit less, dare I say, "Future Proof".
