GTX 470 too hot.

GeForce GTX 470 EVGA

When playing Final Fantasy XIV on medium-high settings, my GPU is hitting as high as 90C, with a stock fan.

Using EVGA precision, I'm seeing that basically the fan isnt adjusting enough according to temp... With the Fan Speed adjusting itself automatically, its only running at 60% for 90C.

Now, I could just adjust the fan manually [at 100% speed its only about 75C], but I shouldnt have to do this :-/ The fan doesnt have to be 100% the entire time, only when Im doing spell-heavy fights. Is there a way, with EVGA precision or any other program, to change how much the fan adjusts for different temps? Like, adjusting as needed to keep it around 75-80C, and not letting it go higher?

Whats the airflow like in your case?

As for been able to change when your fan auto increases its speed depending on temp, Give an app called Sapphire Trixx a try,You can manually set it to rise/drop fan speeds when your card reaches certian temps.

Not sure if this app works for Nvidia cards though so you will have to try.

Thank you very much, I will try that app.

As for airflow, I have the Antec Twelve Hundred full atx. All the fans are plugged in and working.

I do have the side panels removed though. While I would normally think this would help it run cooler, could this actually be messing up airflow or something silly by having nothing on the sides of the case?

It only runs 45C idle and 50 on Counter Strike Source [40% fan], 70C on World of Warcraft on max settings with Stereoscopic [55% fan].

It's possible that the leaving off the sides messed with the airflow but I would guess that it is not enough to make a huge change. One way to find out. Put them back on and check the temps.

Then fan profile that Nevakonaza mentioned is probably the best way to get the heat down. I believe that MSI afterburner has fan profiles as well. GTX 470s are kind of known for having high heat.

90C is fine. A little hot, but fine. Cards are rated up to 105C today. I'd reset all your overclocks back to default and exit EVGA Precision. If it's like MSI Afterburner, manually stuffing around with the fan settings can leave the fan stuck on the lowest setting and not increasing with temperature.

in the options of eVGA Precision...

You can adjust the fan speed according to the temperatures it's reading.
