i was just on ebay and i saw a PNY GTX 470 up for 280 bucks. should i go for it? thats like 40 bucks off (its new btw). is are the PNY brand types good? or should i just keep looking for an EVGA?

NO.

You can buy a new GTX470 FOR $299 (or less). Get ASUS, 3 year warranty to anyone. This helps resale value to those in the know. XFX is a 2x lifetime warranty but there are restrictions.

With most manufacturers,PNY included, purchasing a product from a non authorized retailer (eg- ebay), means your product warranty is void, I'd suggest purchasing from a reputable retailer such as amazon, newegg, zipzoomfly, etc.

A small percentage of all hardware fails. Lets say you overclock your card and it fails...without a warranty you are SOL, a manufacturer such as EVGA covers overclocking under their warranty and would send you a new or refurbished unit as a replacement. Plus, i believe all 470's sold by EVGA are covered under their lifetime warranty.

never buy without warranty, you never know.pay the little extra for the warranty.

I would advise you MSI. They have a perfect cooling system and very good specifications. and cheaper than ASUS.
