gtx 480 or duel radeon 5850s

hey, having trouble deciding on what to get, what do you folks think, the gtx 480 superclocked, or duel radeon 5850s, i was also considering duel gtx 480s. question though is that overkill? thanks

Not sure how much two 5850s would cost....But tbh id rather get a single 5870,then you wont have any issues that some games have with Crossfire.

1x 5850 alone should be able to max anything out there and still get great frame rates.

that makes sense, ive always kind of been loyal to nvidia, i dunno lol just been my thing. potentially id like to have a triple display,. with 2 gtx 480s in sli for the main monitor, and a single cheaper card to run the other 2

I would go with the single gtx 480(or a 5870) mainly because not all games support dual gpu's, and you could do like you said, and use a cheaper gpu for the other monitors

yea good call,i think il do that, any idea on a decent card to run 2 26" monitors on?

Run what on them is the question. If you just want to run something like internet on them, then something like a low power(no 6 pin pci connection) 9800gt would do fine.

1 5870 pwns all imo and saves u money. the 480 is crap. too hot, too power hungry, too noisy, and its nvidia and they are starting to suck HARD

First of all, it's not hot. It's power hungry because it's a really capable GPU. Nvidia is sucking hard with the release of the 480? The only reason they started to suck was because they didn't release anything for awhile. But they got the 480 out and card for card, it's beating ATi. So I don't see any logic in your post besides fanboy~ism.

Just go with a single 5870 or GTX480 and in the future if you ever need more just add a second card.

They can both support three monitors by themselves if thats and important feature.

ummm ati had a dx11 card out for 8 months prior to nvidia's release of their card. sure the 480 is a performer but it doesnt beat the 5870 badly enough to warrant the price. ati has the southern AND northern island cards in the pipeline already. the 480 and 470 have not been selling well and nvidia is falling FAR behind.

^ true. Also, Ati rushed their Dx11 GPU's which is why they fail at anything with tessellation.

Note.

Nvidia not selling out the 480 and 470? they're coming out in extremely limited quantity. Demand is like amazingly high for them.

The GTX480 and 470 are easy to get actually. My local stores have more of them than ATI 58x0 cards. They do run hot also, bad? I dont care that the card ran hot but I was unhappy that it heated up my entire computer far past what I was comfortable with.

Now this is a big point, I want an nvidia card for one of my computers. I like competition and a different perspective but I want a card that runs at a decent temp. I also hear their cards may offer some benefits for Photoshop. I am considering a quattro card but would rather get a game card.

They only run hot under Auto during games. Dial up the fans and it won't be hot.

The 780i motherboard does not support CrossFire, so 2 x 5850 will not work for you anyway. You can of course run a single ATI card, but not 2 of them.

Fanboys please stopp arguing and provide some real solution for the person with a question.

If you do decide on a new card (5870, 5850 or the Nvidia 480) all of them will game wery good and I think you'll be happy with anyone of them. Any of the cards mentioned are great for gaming;)

The problem with your argument is that I have actaully owned the card.

It runs hot. Not only for me but for every professional review.

If you have read... it only runs hot when the fans are on Auto. Push the fanspeed up and it cools down.

You could wait for the GTX 490, rumor has it that Nvidia isn't taking any more orders for the 470 because they are going to make a card using 2 470s to make the 490.
