GTX 550 Ti fails at 52°C

so a new cpu cooler should fix the problem? i've been looking at Zalmans and Hyper TX3 Evo (212 Evo is unavailable).. gonna switch back to the corsair today, i could still try to put in a 8800GT just to see if it'll crash the system at 50+oC. (from the same computer i got that psu from..) then if that works just well, i'm guessing it's a gpu problem.. but if not i'll get a new cpu cooler asap.

i put on Prime95, and in a couple of minutes it raised over 70oC (shut it off at 74oC), got to Test 2.

70oC is not high at all. 90oC is a worry.

Either way, provided you have thermal paste, remove the heatsink, clean it and the surfaces from old TIM, dust etc and reapply thermal paste and replace heatsink.

Use Prime95 to heat it up run it for a couple of minutes - even at 80oC is fine, then shut it down and leave it overnight, this cures the TIM>

gonna get a new cooler this week (i hope), then i'll do it.
just check what temp are when the pc crashes...
PC crashed ingame (Sniper Elite V2) when gpu was 50degC and CPU only 57degC.. at so low?!

Check your memory first, those temps are fine. Burn Memtest to a CD, boot from it and run it overnight. Before doing so double check all your bios settings, particularly RAM voltages and settings, and update your BIOS.

Found it before you commented x.x
Ran memtest for nearly 12h:

^and nothing seems to be wrong with the memory..

cleaned out my CPU cooler (under the fan), got some lower temps :D

Got a nVidia 8800GT from a "scrap" computer, gonna try if it could be just the gpu.
EDIT: been playing for a couple of hours straight now with the 8800GT, seems to only be the gpu.. gotta get a new one.

Did it still lock up after you cleaned the CPU cooler before swapping the cards? Don't see how it wasn't overheating and locking up with all that dust in it. You CPU has a 62c max for temps. Don't know where Okedokey got that 70c was fine for a AMD, its not.

That reminds me...I should clean out my PC...

Fair call, on research that is very high, and likely to the culprit
