So I'm in the process of overclocking my GTX 570, but whenever I increase the voltage in MSI Afterburner, my performance degrades, even on stock clocks. What's causing this? :S
Maybe it's downclocking automatically once it reaches a peak voltage or heat level, so that the card doesn't get damaged? I remembered hearing about a new technology on 580/570gtx cards, which is a possible cause. Have you tried other types of overclocking software with the card?
I haven't, mostly because I don't wanna clutter up my computer and don't know of any programs offhand that support software over-volting. Heat levels are acceptable, but then I guess they would be especially if its throttling itself down huh? Any recommendations for other software? I'm going to try a different fan profile and see if that helps.
EDIT: I appear to have fixed the problem! I ticked "Force constant voltage" and without even overclocking any further I got a score of 7900~ on kombustor (in comparison to the 7050-7200 beforehand). NOw its time to see how much headroom this thing has
EDITEDIT: Problem still presists, just to a lesser extent. Temps do not exceed 75*c :\
I was strongly considering that card a little while ago, so i'm curious to see your results. My psu is the same wattage even. I do know that the vendors aren't exclusive with their software, so any other software would theoretically work with your card. Don't know if other ones like overvolt are as good as afterburner, so can't recommend any.
Well I'm at 800/1600/2000 right now and it appears stable, with the voltage at 1013 mV. Temps aren't going above 65*c but that's largely (Entirely ) due to my very aggressive fan curve of 85% @ 65*c lol. The card is a real good performer and it seems like most people are getting pretty good clocks out of it, I'm just getting really inconsistent behaviour from it.
As far as recommendations go, I'd say its either this or a 6950 unlocked with a 6970 BIOS. The 6970 seems like its a little bit better than the 570, but not worth the price/performance increase, however a 6950 is a good deal cheaper and completely reverses the situation. They seem pretty reliably unlockable, but the GTX 570 is a very safe bet.
Update: Card artifacted and crashed in DIRT 2 despite passing 2 hour torture test in furmark, backed down to 785/1570/2000, gonna keep playing with it until I get it just right, can't go any higher because performance drops when I go to 1025 mV, must be the card regulating itself.
