i want to buy guildwars nightfall for chrismas, but for nightfall to work do i need any of the previous versions for it to run, or can i just buy it and play it without the other versions of gw

about guild wars
only thing you need existing previous guild wars games for is guid wars eye of north which is expansion the guild wars nightfall factions and guild wars regular are standalone campaigns so you dont need to have any of the games with those but eye of north is only one where you have to have a previous guild wars in order to play.
personally i like guild wars factions first cuz its great for leveling but nightfall is fine just if you want to be a dervish or paragon for the special classes you should get nightfall.
i really would get all of them but if you want to start off with nightfall you can

lets say i had guldwar nightfall and my friend had guild war fractions, would we beable to play online together?
what is the best guildwars out that i should get, i want a cool strong class

best guild wars to get would be all of them they are all very great games but your friend who has factions you can talk to him while your playing nightfall but you cant team up with him unless you have factions unlocked on your account and you have it installed to your computer.
but if you want guild wars that looks good nightfall and eye of the north would look the best out of them all but factions looks decent and prophecies which is the original guild wars looks decent but not as polished as the newer games.
well all the classes are good they are well balaced out elementalist do more damage while warriors have heavy defense
