Like a LOT of stuff, this is just one of those things that, yes, is illegal, but do you really wanna hire a lawyer and attempt some sort of action against it? Wouldn't be worth it..

Yeah I know it's just one of those things, but I was under the impression that governments monitored the internet. And if this is a bot/program that a company is selling then why is the company still in business?

My guess is that someone set up some bots to copy some posts from here. I would assume that they would do this to make the forum look like it has lots of posts and threads and is very popular to attract new members. Possibly the entire site was set up to profit from the advertisements.

You do have a nose for bullcrap, lol. Just messin' with ya, I would say that is a very good hypothetical explanation.

No we embarrass the living crap out of them, that's what. Anybody got any plan to do that? We could get a mass number of ppl to create accounts on there and spam them about copying us.

Well obviously they don't care about being embarrassed. And I think they're doing it to get post count and popularity. So if you spammed them you'd only be doing them a favor.

My advice...just let it be. It's not harming us in any way shape or form.

As far as I know the internet is still the virtual "wild west" as far as governmental control goes.. Plus, what do I care if the Armenian government decides to try and govern the internet? Probably about the same amount as if an Armenian would care if the US tried to govern it.. You're only subject to your OWN local laws, so that stroke in Russia or Africa is free to do what he wants and there's not much that can be done.. Talking about laws and rules on the internet is pointless..

You have to keep in mind that the internet is worldwide and NOBODY is in charge of anything.. You log on at your own risk. The good news is that there's boat loads of money to be made, the bad news is that there are NO safety nets.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I emailed the FCC about the Spydawn adware, that is a real pain, I got no response for a month and when I did. They said that wasn't their jurisdiction, they said have a nice day, end of that conversation. I emailed again and asked who's jurisdiction it was, I never did get a response, I am puzzled who controls the internet

nobody controls the internet.. thats the point.. and it would be impossible for anyone to TRY and govern it because it would require every single sovereign country to come together and agree on the terms, and have the ability to keep control of it.. Not only would this never be possible but WE wouldn't have it.. Before you know it there'd be taxes on it, licenses, and very controlled content..

Not only that but should the government begin to TRY and wrap its claws around the internet by controlling access and censoring content, the users would merely migrate to a "subnetwork" and in essence just restart the internet.. All the internet is is just one big massive computer network. It's versatile and resilient. The "Internet" is really more of an idea than it is a tangible object.. Nobody will ever control it..

The best part of the internet is the fact that it's a free flowing organic entity.

I have thought about this before and that is already happening with torrents and p2p programs...

sure,... I mean if you really wanted to you could buy a bunch of servers and start your own "internet".. It just wouldn't be practical unless it served a specialized purpose. I mean if you could get the world to change over to your protocol you'd be a bajillionare..

It's already being done EVERYWHERE.. Lots of organizations have their own "INTRAnets" which is essentially a mini internet..

How exactly would you go about writing a new protocol?

well instead of typing http:// into your browser, you could make up another one..

"http://" is the internet... Hypertext transfer protocol.

"rbai://" is my new internet Ryan's Bad Ass Internet.

You'd need to have infrastructure arranged all over the country in order for people to access it..

I would have to make another type of browser that would use that type of protocol, correct?

Yeah because all a browser is is a program that compiles the data based on preexisting instruction which is the Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

You COULD just mirror http I suppose, but you'd still probably need to release a new browser simply because of the way FF, IE, or Opera are coded, they might not even know how to handle a new prefix.. It'd be like using a phone from another country that dials differently..

Couldn't I just use a different port, like HTTP is Port 80, I could invent port 1027

Oh...okay, I am not very good in WAN networking, I am decent in LAN. I am a general hardware guy, I understand more now.

Thanks man

This is sort of a fun idea actually.. Because if you could come up with a newer better or more expansive way to utilize YOUR internet, you might stand a chance at getting a good amount of people over to it, and who knows someday it might become the new standard.. Maybe your internet could be a slightly different experience than the existing one.. Maybe it can be primarily wireless, have far better bandwidth.. Take it beyond text and images on a page..

Someone will probably do it someday..

In fact I predict in the future there's going to be several different protocols to dial into. Different factions of the internet if you will..

Better yet, have a server speed requirement,

*evil laugh* Phase 1 of my plan to take over the world, lol.

hahaha! this topic went from freaky people who want to mirror our posts all the way to inventing a new idea to use the internet! lol :D:P

*edit* that is pretty scary though...
