had heater too close to computer and melted lots of the plastic around cd player

most of the parts on the out side of the desktop, like all the plastic around the cd player and such basically melted or warped on my xps 8300 and was wondering where a good place to buy online or if anyone had any of these spare parts they may be able to sell thru paypal... just wondering how expnesive these part are... thanks

So you're looking to just buy the front panel to replace on the case? The first (and maybe best?) place to check might be with the company that makes the case. Call customer support and see if they sell spare parts or not.

Also, this site has a "parts for sale" thread you can look in. I guess you could also post a "wanted" thread and see if you get any bites.

***The next stuff I'm going to suggest depends on where you live.

You can post a "wanted" ad for free on Craig's list. You might want to just look for the whole case (probably easier than finding someone selling just the front plate) so you can use parts from it, or swap out all the components into the new one.

we had this discussion a while back. According to the moderators, you can not buy, sell or comment on sale threads until your 100th post.
 
its more meant to be a guard against cons and spammers than to block honest users from use. Either way, the rules are the rules.

You are correct, the system won't even allow you access to that subforum until you reach 100 posts. And if they try to sell something in a different subforum without a 100 posts, the thread will get deleted and the user may incur a warning or infraction.

Sorry, I didn't know. I've never actually looked in that thread. My bad.

So craigs list, ebay, the usual suspects.
 
Is the case melted or the CD drive? You can replace the CD drive easily for about $20, (Just make sure your motherboard supports SATA, or try to find an older IDE drive) and you could buy a new case and transfer the parts over.
 
i suggest buying a new case, pulling the old PSU out, and junking the old case, as that new case also includes the psu = good for all intensive purposes as long as your not exceeding the limit. yea you will have to replace the dvd drive, but thats easy enough.
