Half Life 2 Demo Problems

I have the Half Life 2 Demo- i play it sometimes, so i can get used to it before i buy the game. My problem is that it loads soooooooooooooo slowly- its insane! i have a SATA 1.5gbps 160 WD, and its like an old 4500rpm ATA or something. Ive checked my CPU usage- its at like 5 percent. Is there a way to solve this? At one loading spot, it takes upwards of three minutes to load, and i dont want to play the actual game like that. Any help is appreciated.

It could just be slow. If you could, get another gig of RAM. Im sure that would help. You could also try closing all background programs that might be running.

What, you mean you have an old ATA 4500rpm SATA 160Gb Western Digital? Cause you make it sound like it uses both Serial ATA and ATA. :P I've never seen a harddrive like that.

Hes saying its a 160GB SATA drive, but since it loads so slow it seems like an older HD :P

Loads pretty quick on my SATA2 drive:D

have you got a dual core processor? if so steam has a problem with it, if you do have a dual core ill tell you how to fix it, but i cba to type it out not knowing i it will help

no- i dont think AMD makes a 3200+ dual core... wish they did... i posted another thread in the Hard Drives section about my drive, you can look there for more info on my drive. And now that i have played the demo a few times, it loads faster.

I really think it is your drive that is affecting the loading times. I don't understand why all your other parts should be affecting the load times on HL2, they should run HL2 exelently. A 3200+ is adaquite, 1024MB RAM is plenty since recommended is 512MB, a GeForce 6800XT is also adaquite. The only posibilites I see is your slow HD or overheating (which is probably is not it since you have so many fans in your PC).

ya- my thoughts exactly! thanks for agreeing, my pc runs it fine until i have to load a new part of a level. I just dont get y my drive isnt working at 1.5gbps.
