Half of my Hard Drive space gone to D Drive

My girlfriend originally created two users for her brand new laptop, one user was under her name, the other user was under her sister's name. Recently, she removed her sister's user account because she noticed that when she originally did this, her 80 GB hard disk got split into two 40 GB hard drives. She thought that by removing her sister's account that the 40 GB would just be added to her "C" drive, however, the 40 GB went to the "D" drive instead. How do I go about fixing this problem for her so that the 40 GB now in the "D" Drive will be put back into the "C" drive. Thanks for helping, much appreciated.

Start >> Control Panel >> Adminitistrive Tools >> Computer Management >> Disk Management on the left

now check to see what partitions are on your hard drive.

Ok, I will check tonight, I don't have access to her computer right now. Thanks for responding. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Sorry took so long, didn't have access to the computer till just now.
I checked what you told me to check, and it looks as if these are the drives that are partitioned. I don't know much about Partitions, but this is what it looks like.
Volume Layout Type Capacity Free space
ACER(C:) partition Basic 35.70 GB 26.24 GB
ACER(D:) partition Basic 35.87 GB 35.87 GB
PQSERVICE partition Basic 2.93 GB 1.10 GB

Hope this helps, thanks again.

Looks like your drive is split into three partitions. C: and D: equal with another partition called PQSERVICE. Looks like you have an Acer computer going by the name of the drives so PQSERVICE is most likely a recovery patition to restore your computer to its original state if required.

Now, I'm not sure if you can merge the two drives using windows unless any of the other members know how but I think that Partition Magic can do this.
