Half of Ram?

I just installed a 1 gig stick of ram and its only displayed as 512????
What did I do wrong?

Its a MSI 845 ulra-c motherboard, it says it holds up to 2 gb....

Where does it say you have 512mb? Download CPU-Z and check.

If you don't have anything move the 1GB into that.

I have my old 256 in DIMM 1

take it out and put JUST the 1gb in there, then if it's ok put the 256 in dimm2.

probably another motherboard thats fussy with that ram it takes
