They can and will. It is all marketing, everyone wanting to play Halo2 (and there will be many) will have to buy Vista. It is Microsoft, think about it.

lol, imagine how much better Halo 2 is going to look on PC then Xbox360..

AA, ASF, DX10, 1600x1200..... need I continue?

Yes, that's true, but they're still going to piss a lot of people off with that whole thing. Microsoft is going to take that chance to get a little more money out of people. Anyway, they may realize this and release a patch or something later on, but not initially. Plus, if Halo2 releases right when Vista does, a lot of people won't be upgrading to Vista for a while (at least a year) to make sure they took care of all the major bugs..., and therefore not able to get any of the purely DX10 games for a while, either.

It's not because of marketing that its only on Vista, it's because Halo 2 is a DX10 game, and therefor requires DX10, which is only available on Vista.

Oh so Xbox360 is DX10? No it's not. Halo 2 is being made DX10 so that it is only playable on Vista i'm sure ;).

So yes it is because Halo 2 on PC is going to be DX10. But you have to ask yourself... why is it? It is already created and enjoyed without DX10 technology.

It is only my opinion but I feel it was marketing. This is why they choose to make Halo on PC Direct X10. It would run and look just fine on Windows XP with dX09 technology.

It could be both, but they have to make a choice whether to have it compatible with older version of Windows, but lacks the graphics, or be a vista only game and have superb graphics.

Well I do agree partially with you on that. I just feel that it would look simply fantastic with DX9 which fuels games such as prey & better yet, Crysis. I have the feeling that they are going to change little about the game when they "port" it to the PC. I'm willing to bet that It will prob. not look much better then the 360 with the inclusion of higher resolutions and AA of course. Those visuals can of course be created for windows XP under Direct X09.

I do agree that the better experience will prob. be on Vista with DX10 but there really is little reason not to make it backward compatible with dx9 which is entirely possible. The reasoning not to make it backward compatible would be for marketing of Windows Vista... If they were worried about marketing the game, well they'd make it backward compatible.

Now lets face it... Microsoft is not overly concerned with selling the game on the PC. They made it exclusive for Xbox to sell more xbox's, just like with halo. After they feel they have sold as many xbox's as they could with a single game they release it on the PC simply to continue profiting from the game. This time they strategically release Halo2 to profit from the game but more so to profit from Windows Vista. Like I said, they would make it wonderful and beautiful with DX10 (as some would put it) and still have it backward compatible with dx09 if they cared to get the game into PC gamers hands. It is to sell Vista.

I think a game like Crysis is a good example of what can be done with a game using DX09 and 10 technology. They care to sell the game as that is their business. Selling Vista will be Microsoft's biggest concern over Halo2.

I see what your saying, and it is probably a mixture of both marketing, and wanting it to look as good as possible.

Which is also made by Microsoft.

I hope they acturally make halo 3 on dx10 instead of halo 2. I beat halo 2 soo many time on xbox.

If they ever port it then it'll have to be made with DX10...I don't see why the won't make it for DX10...but don't expect anything like that until 2009 or later...
