Hamachi

Ok I hate to keep posting questions about setting up this network, but I just want it to work with jumping through the fewest amount of hoops.

Hamachi has gotten me farther than any other resource to date. It is running on my computer and on my sisters (Vista:home premium). On hers When she goes to network connections, she can see my network but cant connect to it. On my computer, I cant see her network at all. I want to have her be able to access my computers 500gig external HDD which is set to share, and I want to be able to access one folder on her computer which is set to shared. Hamachi displays that we are connected to each others networks, but how do we get it so we can see one anothers drives as a networked drive?

Have you tried to map a network drive? Have you check the permissions on the share on your sister's share to make sure that you have rights to it. Try to access it from the run command.

How do you do that?

Hamachi shows that both connects (her to mine and mine to hers) are green which means they are in sync. How do you map a network drive in Vista and how do I make sure I have the right settings set up? How do i check from run cmd?

So lets make sure I have this correct:

1. Make sure both are connected via Hamachi
2. Create new network connection using her computers IP as the address (or do i use her hamachi number?) and use MY Hamachi account name and password to finish the connection.
3. Then use cmd prompt to connect to her computer?

if these computers are on the same network you dont need hamachi, hamachi is used for VPN and outside network access

if both are on the same network, you can use windows P2P networking

-make sure both computers are in the same workgroup (right click "My computer" icon, then click proporties, then click computer name, then "change" and define a workgroup name and restart" [any workgroup name is fine as long as its the same on both computers])

-right click the HDD icon in My Computer, click proporties, click Sharing, define Share name, click apply then close

-on computer without HDD, click Tools inside of My computer, find Map Network Drives

-choose drive letter

-type \\HOST_COMPUTER_NAME\share name defined earlier

-click finish

-all done
