Hand held web

Hi
one of my relatives deals with stocks and shares and needs to sit infront of a computer all day to see the real time CityIndex being update. I was thinking of getting him a PDA (or something similar) as a present so he could check the figures and trade online whilst about the house or on the move - something conveinient and portable. Has anyone got any recommendations for a unit that can check this sort of thing from the internet, whilst being a good all round unit. It would probably be primarily for the trading purpose but other features would be nice. Im not too fussed about price - im probably talking good mid-range, nothing really budget, but on the other hand over £400 is a probably a bit much....
Thanks for help!

If he's going to stuck in a house or an office, I'd say go ahead and use a palm or pocketpc. But if you want real freedom, I recommend a Sidekick2 (aka Hiptop2). I know there's a tmobile europe that carries it among others. In the USA, the unlimited internet service is only $29/month (19 if your already a subscriber). You can't beat that. It's got a web browser and it's amazingly fast. I use it daily for emails and hundreds of IM's from friends & customers. Best thing is that you can access the web anywhere, at anytime, for very little money.

Cheers - that sidekick looks pretty good - especially if you can get interenet anywhere. I really dunnno, you see that seems slightly more'phone' based and people have also recommended Ipaqs and Tungsten T5. Any opinions??
Ive also just looked at the Dell Axim X51v 624 MHz - this looks pretty good as a palmtop unit....anyone know if it would be suitable for the stuff i described above??

Cheers!

well the sidekick if anything looks more pda'ish with the fullsize keybaord and widescreen but if you relative is like a buisness man wouldnt this be like the perfect thing for him (check the stocks netime, phone, email etc...)???

They'll be suitable, but you'll need an access point. So if he stays indoors or at hot spots, it should be fine. But with a sidekick2, it's got java now and you can access it anywhere (long drives, boring presentations, stuck in traffic, waiting for your girlfriend in a dressing room, etc). Full Qwerty keyboard too.

ya the sk2 is awsome, i have it and its always kept me happy...also if he knows or learns how to program he can create programs or find programs people have made that make it easier.. like he can make a stock program which is like the stock market or w/e. the things you can do with a sk2, is endless...

right then, will have to think about this one...so would everyone go for the sidekick rather than the Axim??

BTW whilst on the point - leaving the obvious frills of PDAs and such like units asside for a bit, If we are just talking about basically checking numerical finance figures etc would anyone simply suggest forgetting about forking out on a palm top computer and just getting a good upgrade mobile phone with internet?? Might a PDa be a bit overkill? I mean Ive just updated my old t68 ericson to the newish K700i phone - Not too sure how to use it properly yet, but I think the interenet (Wap?) is pretty good. My friend would probably be able to upgrade to something similar also. Thing is would I particularly need the superior?? internet qualities of something like the sidekick or is the k700 functions as good???

well wap or w/e you call it cant go to actual websites...usually it would look realy wierd and take forever to load. now with the side kick your gettting the actaull look of the website as if you at a comp. the new update of the sk2 uncluded JAVA scrpit where it allows you to see the website it was ment to be seen. b4 it was that the website was put to simple text and you couldnt see all the pictures and stuff.
you should also look into the blackberries. they are good PDA/cell phones. and i think they are cheaper than the sk2(sk2 use to be $100-$200 now its like $300-$500)
