handling data on duel drives

so i just installed a second drive, main reson for this being to make it easier next time i need to reinstall my OS. So OS is installed on master drive. I'm using slave drive to store files. Where do I install apps and programs? Master or slave drive?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm thinking it would make sense to install all my programs in my slave drive so when the big format and install of the OS operation comes along I don't have to reinstall all the programs on that drive (Master). Right?
 
doesn't exactly work that way, what I do is save all my applications on the C drive still, but I install games to my other partition (same goes for two drives) so if I need to reinstall I still have the save games. TO answer your question, most of your programs will not work without being reinstalled no matter which drive they are saved to, some really simple programs won't have a problem but most will
 
I agree that it won't do any good to install your programs on the
second drive since it will still install the DLL files etc to the C:\windows
directory and you will lose all that if you reformat the C drive and
that will require you to reload the programs.

I would suggest that anything that allows you to create a file
like pictures, documents, etc that you change the default location
to store those files etc to the second drive.

For instance, if you have microsoft word it will have a default
location to store your documents. It might be C:\My Documents.
Change it to D:\My Documents so that if you wipe your computer
to reinstall you won't have to copy the documents to the D drive.
 
Well thats not 100% true. I have two HDD's in my computer and i installed all my games to that hdd. When i reformated my main HDD, i created all the same user names etc. and all my games still work. Thats not very likely that will happen, but possible.
 
Well the problem is the registry. The values are not going to be kept for the master drive, regardless of where the files are.
