Hard disc format

I am unable to install any operating system, I just get P.O.S.T. then a blinking cusor.Can you please advise me on Format software that will clean my H/Disc, so I can try to make a clean. I have been using Ubuntu 11.04.
 
All the modern Operating Systems will have a Format option built into the Install Disk. You just need to boot from the CD, not the Hard Drive.
 
You must set you CD/DVD-ROM drive to be the first device to boot from in the BIOS otherwise you will not be able to boot from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM disk...

SystemRescueCD

Hit F2 at the first chance and choose dban-- "quick" for zerowipe, "ops2" for thorough wipe taking a long time (disconnect from internet, set it running and go to bed)
 
Pay Attension

just insert a bootable CD of any operating system and then change your booting option from BIOS to CD?DVD BOOT, and just let the OS boot from inserted CD/DVD, just follow the instructions carefully.:)

Had the same issue with Ubuntu and my wifes laptop, the answer to fixing the situation is making another disc, the original one I was using for some reason would not work but once I burned a new copy it worked, Ubuntu has its little quirks.
