hard disk crash

My hard disk has stopped working. Last night I left my computer on for downloading. I woke up in the morning to find my computer rebooted and showing error of not detecting any boot device. Upon analysing I found out my hard disk cannot be detected by BIOS. I opened up my cabinet and took out my hard disk and found out the disk inside is not rotating when I start my computer. Also there was no sound inside of disk crash or head malfuntioning when I shaked my hard disk a little. being a SATA hard disk i changed my SATA connection point on motherboadr and also the power cable. few days back I had bought a 1 TB hard disk which seems to wrok fine still as I have just loaded a new OS now. It has not got affected. Can anyone detect or predict what may be the problem. I am no computer expert, so if anyone can tell the problem in a simple way I would be gratefull.
Also I wish to know if there any solution to data recovery of the important files I have in it.

If its not spinning up, its a dead drive as long as you have tried changing power plugs and such. Try hooking the drive up in another computer to verify its not your system or power supply. If it still won't detect your drive, then its bad and you would have to send it off to get the data off with the cost of a few hundred dollars or more.
