Hard disk problem!! do you think??

hi guys....

today i want discuss about hardisk. i just want opinion from u all n suggestion that have to make for this kind of problem...

Like this, I'm a computer tecnician n all my friends always send their pc to me. many kind of problem that i faced, mostly formatting and upgrade a cpu.... But this kind of problem appear n are caused of my costumer pc. the pc can't detected any hardisk installed n when i want to run setup, it terminated because of can't copy windows file to any directory.. sometimes, if hardisk detected it also get same result..
so i've try to boot manually by use a floopy. Then in a dos mode, i run FDISK, then at the screen shown 'no fixed disk present'. from this i conclude that maybe the hardisk was broken... Do anyone know exactly whats the problem is.. Is the hardisk surely broken or can use anymore or have some kind of solution to repair it???? I have about 5 Hardisk that face the same result... So can we discuss about it.......??:rolleyes:
 
This happened to me when I first got one of my computers, because I have 5 computers and one of them had this problem, I just had to re-formatt the entire thing and re-install the hard-disks physically.
 
What type of hard drive? And what OS are you running? If ide the drive's jumper may be set wrong for the position on the cable itself. On many prebuilt systems the jumper is set for cable select not master or slave. On the end of the cable it would otherwise be set as master. For sata drives other then Vista you would need to first prepare a driver disk for installing Windows onto it.
 
im running windows xp on maxtor hdd, n win 98 on seagate hdd. pc eye, what ur mean by prepare a driver disk? it's the driver disk for the hardisk?? can u explain back..
 
Are both drives connected to an ide ribbon cable or is one of them on a shorter narrower type pl;ugged into a different type of slot on the board? If in front of the pci slots and not 1/2 as wide as the stansard ide connector that would be a sata drive where drivers for the onboard controller have to be loaded by Windows.

Assuming the primary is ide you can try changing the drive's jumper setting at the rear of the casing to cable select to see if the drive is then properly detected or simply try a different cable. The standard flat ribbon cables are often found to be the problem if the jumper is set correctly for the position on the cable itself. Master for end and Slave for center.
 
both is connected to one ide ribbon cable. jumper setting is correct n primary i put at the end of cable, slave at center of the cable. even if i put only one hdd, it still have the same problem
 
Besodes the post screen listing of drives installed one other method of detecting a drive is the use of a live Linux distro or even GParted live for cd since Linux has always had a better method of hardware detection until Vista now seeing that improved. f that has a typical flat ribbon cable follow the previous advice of trying another one. The aged ide ribbon cable get hardened up and more often need replacement at times over the round type.
 
sometimes it show the hdd but sometime it not detect it......
anyway i will try change the ide ribbon cable..
 
With the two ide hard drives, cd writer, dvd burner, and now two sata drives(different cable type) the "best" cables round or otherwise have been put to the test there. These are the Antec Cobra round cables that have been put through the mill. The flat ribbon type often will see problems due to the manufacturer's quality not just the type. Other round cables like PC Toys are nothing but crap.

I have change the ide cable, n now the hardisk still won't work. probably my hardisk can't be used more.. Anyway i will try changing my hardisk n thanks a lot to u guys for helping me. One more question, did the damage or bad condition of hardisk can be repair or used back???
 
If the read/write heads or spndile are worn you might as well plan on a new drive. Have you tried the three positions for the drive's jumper with the new cable? That would be setting as master or cable select at the end of the cable by itself or at the center with the slave or cable select there. The thing to go by is the post screen when first starting the system. When seen you know the jumper is set correctly. The second cable could also be bad???
 
Sorry to be perhaps a party pooper, or not answering your question, but, you call yourself a computer technician? How did you come to this conclusion? You don't seem to know how to do much, and you can't spell or use correct grammar.

I have an hdd that does not work also..
So what I did is set the jumper to the fourth one which is blank and set my hdd in the middle of the cable as an slave and it worked...
Does not work in the end of the cable even by moving the jumper.
So it works all that matters
also ant the end of the cable ofc I put my cd/dvd rom
 
yes i do not know much, that why im asking n asking to get more information. some more, i didn't says that i'm pro tecnician. But its really my job n i enjoy it until now. About the grammer, sorry to tell because i'm not well in english. But i will try to learn n learn more about it and even my garammer not too good, i always try to make people understand what i want to say n it just fine to me because people out there understand me. anyway styrak thanks about the comment..
