guys,i tried everything but when i try to install windows xp the installing software tells me that my hard drive(Maxtor SATA 250 giga with 16 mega buffer) isnt compatible with it! so i read a lot and i realized that i needed a floppy with sata drivers.so i got them from my motherboard(a ASUS NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI) BUT after pressing F6 and after installing the SATA drivers from floppy windows STILL tells me that my hard drive isnt compatible with the O.S. !!!!! i am going crazy, perhaps i need the correct drivers..can please anybody be so kind to point me the right way???im going crazy,i bought the computers 2 weeks ago and i cant still use it!!! thanks a lot in advance!!!

P.S on startup, the bios recognized the SATA hard drive...

waht is the exact make and model of the drive.

And in reply to your comment about the BIOS recognizing it.... That doesnt matter, as long as the BIOS is SATA enabled it will see the drive, making windows recognize it is a different story

the sata drive is a diamondmax 10...i am looking in the asus site to see if they got drivers but i dont see anything... :(

i am going crazy.. :(

ehy there,ok now it works a little more but here i want to explain:

i have 2 sata maxtor 250 giga, when it wasnt working both drives were mounted, then when i unmounted the master one and i made the slave drive a new master drive it finally installed windows xp...BUT windows see 130 giga instead of 250 WHILE linux see 250 giga...so it looks like a Operating system problem...is this happened to someone else? a way to fix this?

i installed windows xp without service pack, then when i installed i also upgraded it to service pack 2 but it still sees 130 giga! :(

have you tried resetting the CMOS? I know i've had problems with installing an OS, i reset the CMOS and it works.

repack windows with service pack 1 or 2 like rip the cd and use a program to slipstream install it reburn cd. easier to use the driver provided with the drive though.
