Hard disk suggestion for Toshiba laptop

Greetings everybody,

I am using a Toshiba Sattelite Pro SP6100. As happened with my 4 previous Toshiba laptops, the hard disk of the laptop 'failed' or 'crashed', producing that lovely buzzing and 'clacking' sounds from the harddisk. (why I kept using Toshiba despite all these? a contract between the provider of the machines) The crash occurred during a simple WinWord usage; no magnetic field, no damage etc.. it was sitting steadily.

Apparently, there is a problem with these hard disks. I would be grateful if you could suggest me a rock-hard, durable and reliable hard disk which I can use with this particular laptop. My price range is between 150-200 dollars.

Thanks in advance.

I've found Maxtor to be very reliable. As much as I'd love to suggest Western Digital, my last one (after 1-2yrs. of service) started receiving bad sectors and BSOD'ing my machine.

dont get hitachi. ordered it for a customer and it wouldnt work! i sent it back and got a western digital for him. personally i prefer seagate for my rig though :)

Thanks a lot people. In fact I have been hearing Hitachi from a number of sources, but fade2green's comment is indeed interesting. Any negative comments about Seagate? It looks like I will choose that one.

And also why are Toshiba's hard disks fail so often? I haven't yet encountered a Toshiba laptop, whose hard disk hasn't failed within a year.

Hitachi's are very affordable, I've got one in my Z70VA right now. I'm not too fond of the Toshiba drives or support. 16mb cache sounds nice, but can be out performed by my cheapie Hitachi. Maxtor support is excellent, and Western Digital is probably the coolest running notebook drives. I've never had a problem with Hitachi's or Seagate, never had to deal with their support, so I wouldnt know.
