I need help with accessing and replacing the hard drive on an IBM Thinkpad 2635. I destroyed one IBM laptop in my efforts to locate and retrieve the hard drive because I was unable to get the thing apart without breaking it. I found instructions on the web, and I THINK I removed the correct screws but was unable to get past the step of raising the LCD. Here are the instructions I followed:
IBM® ThinkPad 380D, 380ED/385D/385ED
Turn the notebook upside-down.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the 8 Phillips screws on the bottom half of the notebook.
Turn the notebook right-side-up.
Raise the LCD.
Remove the top half completely off of the notebook.
Remove the 3 keyboard cables from the motherboard and set the top half of the notebook aside.
Remove the top Phillips screw from behind the LCD right hinge.
Remove the Phillips screw that is located above the parallel port.
Remove the CD/Floppy disk and flip it out of the way (you don't have to remove its cables).
Slide the hard drive out of the notebook.
Remove the bracket from the old hard drive and install it onto the new hard drive.
Slide the new hard drive into the notebook, making sure that it is firmly connected.
Replace the CD/Floppy disk.
Replace the Phillips screws that were removed in STEP# 9 and STEP# 8.
Take the top half of the notebook and replace its 3 keybaord cables to the motherboard.
Snap the top half of the notebook down and make sure that it is firmly in place.
Close the LCD.
Turn the notebook upside-down.
Replace the 8 Phillips screws that were removed in STEP# 3.
Replace the battery pack.
Can someone tell me how to remove the top half completely off the notebook without breaking the thing? Thanks!!
