Hard Drive and DVD-RW On Same IDE Channel

Currently, I have 2 hard drives on my primary IDE channel and a DVD-RW on my secondary IDE channel.

In my quest for more disk space, I want to add a third hard drive (I do not want to buy a bigger hd at this time to replace the smaller ones that I have on my primary). Is it possible to add the third hard drive on the same IDE cable with my DVD-RW?

I know you're not supposed to mix them up, but will it work?

And if this is possible, which is to be the master and which the slave?

Yes it is possible, just dont burn to the DVD from the HD which you have on the Same IDE Channel.

Yeah you can. the "primary" cable is called the "0" cable and the "secondary" cable is called the "1" cable. Here's why. On each cable there is a master and a slave. They use "0" and "1" so you don't get confused. And yes you can mix them, just make sure if you have the hard drive as a slave you have the jumpers on the hard drive as slave. If you want the hard drive as a master put the jumpers on master. It will say how to configure it on the hard drive. Oh, and by the way, "HDD" is short for hard drive.

you can do everthing by this, because the MAX DATA transmission of DVDRW is very Limited~

first of all:set the jumpers right!

When the DVD drive is running (unless you have a UDMA mode 4 drive) the HDD will be limited to ATA33 speeds.
