That depands on whether the drive cable is for the ide standard or you are referring to the smaller round sata data cable? The standard ribbon cable used for ide drives is the exact same for optical drives as well.

its the ide one. The mobo didn't have them for some reason.

An IDE cable is an IDE cable. It makes no difference if it's 40 pin or 80 conductor. The only difference(which can be either 40 or 80) is if it's cable select or not.

But in short, yes, it'll work just fine.

Do you want to see some real good ones to go with? The Antec Cobra set used here is already in use on the third case since they replaced some other round "cheapies" some time back(PC Toys blue vinyl crap).
