How do I open my drive-D? I need to edit drive-D because i have a virus in one of my files.

The same way you would access C: drive.
Is D: another hard drive partition or an optical drive?

or a backup/restore partition put on there by the company you bought it from?

its backuped by HP. I just need to find a way to open it because i need to clean up sum files to make my computer's performance run right.

D drive is your backup partition, and cannot be easily edited. It is secured so that files may not be easily edited so that it will remain clean of viruses and allow for a smooth backup if necessary. There shouldn't be any files inside of it that you need to clean up.

If you wish to use it to restore your system files, restart your computer and as it's booting it should say something somewhere to the likes of press whatever to open up the recovery manager... I think it's usually F12.

right click , format you would lose the ability to restore unless you make recovery discs beforehand.
