Hard Drive Dying?

Today, I just heard a weird ticking noise come from my computer. I know it is not the fan because when I start the computer up it does not make the sound until it gets past BIOS and starts booting up. I also listened to it closely and it seems like it is coming from the Hard Drive. Is my Hard Drive Dying?

yea maybe wat brand is it?

The tick of death... I can almost guarantee you that it's dying (if it's really from the HDD, not a wire jumping from a spinning fan...)...

Backup everything immidiately. Get your DVDs and CD's out and start copying to them or get Norton Ghost on...

Thanks for warning me! It could be the fan. I opened up the case but it is very hard to isolate where the sound it coming from. I will try again later.

Disable a few fans for a few seconds, or just take the HDD out. Press your ear to it. Should be pretty loud.

Yup! Luckily I know someone who can give me a new Hard Drive:) But, It seems like this time of year my hard drive crashes. Last year my Hard Drive Crashed too.

wow is it like a thunder storm or something that does it because I had somebody at work that they're house wasn't wired right and they're laptop hard drive and both they're desktop hard drives died

Could be. I used to have a old imac g3 and I accidentally overloaded the outlet and blew out the Hard Drive. The Hard Drive kind of sounds like a cricket. It just started happening today.

I would backup my hard drive or transfer it to another hard drive
