Hard Drive Failed, How to Replace It

Hello,
I recently posted a forum concerning how my computer wouldn't boot and had many suggestions on checking all pieces of hardware on my machine. After thorough scans and tests, i found that i have a defective hard drive. So I was wondering if there is any way to somehow transfer/save/bring over the applications and files from my old Samsung HD501LJ to whatever my new hard drive will be.
Help is really really appreciated.
Thanks,

There are various Drive Imaging softwares out there, you can probably find a free one. These allow you to make an exact copy of your current drive, normally onto a drive of the same size or bigger drive. Though you have to watch out with those, theres a danger of it thinking you've copied the fault over as well. Other than that I would suggest saving all the files you want on an external hard drive, then installing everything from fresh on your new drive and copying the files back over again. That way you get a nice fresh install

obviously if there's that much of a problem with your drive then you may well have quite a few corrupt files, or it may not ever recognise your hard drive properly or something like that, but it's worth a go.

alright could you explain how this program works exactly, because the whole site is in like another language haha, also whats a live cd?

click on the us/british flag on the left ;)
a live cd is basically an Operating System (like Windows) that runs straight off the cd, it doesn't need installing. This is ideal as you don't want to use your hard drive.
So you burn this image to a cd, then boot to it and it should come up with a desktop, similar to windows.
If your hard drive is still working then it should appear on the desktop and you should be able to go into it and access your files.

alright, well i tried it out and it boots but everytime it ends up just saying "The Graphical subsystem could not be started or terminated unexpectedly. Maybe your graphics adapter or monitor are not auto-configurable. Please try to reboot and give some of the Knoppix-Cheatcodes at the initial boot:"

and then it gives me different option about which code to type in. When I type in the one for nvidia it still doesn't work. Whats goin wrong here?
