Hard Drive for Dell Dimension 1100

I have a Dell Dimension 1100 desktop PC which has an 80GB 'Western Digital WD800BB' hard drive. I need more space on it for photos etc. and would like to replace it to around 500GB.

According to the specs on the Dell website, the only conenectors are IDE, so I have found an adaptor on eBay to convert a new SATA drive to IDE: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-2-1-IDE-S...uting_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2a0e81abfd

I'm still unsure though whether I can use this in my PC, and whether there is a limit to the size of the hard drive I can put in it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why take the chance of it not working? There was another post about this same adapter just a few days ago, and they found out the adapter wasn't working correctly. You have an older system and I wouldn't trust the adapter. You'll be spending a lot more then 60 if the apapter don't work, you'll have to end up getting the drive I linked you to.

Just had a rethink - seeing as the adapter only costs £4, I'm willing to take the risk of it not working. Which SATA hard drives would be compatible? (i.e. is there a limit to the size I can use?) Thanks.
