To start, i know this sounds very newbie but i really dont know what to do...
ive got 3 HD's my C: another internal 250GB and an external 400GB. My C is full and ive allready gone through it to delete all i can find thats unnecessary. I uninstalled as many programs as i could but i just cant find where the BULK of useless stuff is at. I was wondering if theres some kind of program out there that can tell me whats taking up most the space on the damn thing! I think i saw something a while back that breaks the hard drive into a pie chart or something with the %'s of where the most space is being taken up. I duno.. any help though would be greatly appreciated.
Gratefully,
GDP ;-)

Delete everything that is in "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Temp\" and "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Temporary Internet Files\". Everything, subfolders and all (or try to delete it).

Also check P2P download folders and when thats all done and you still dont know ... do a search for *.* and then sort it by filesize :)

thanks for the speedy answer, i allready cleaned up my temp files, and i have my music (all legal live recording btw) downloading to my other hd's

I have spen some years now studying howto free up hd space email me at [email protected] and i will definatly help you.

Start with deleting your prefetvh files in c:\windows\prefetch. (do this every couple of moth's).

Then lower how much space system restore takes up by right clicking my computer and going to the tab system restore. From there drag the pointer to 3 or 2 percent vthat is all it needs.

When you have done that you need to do a huge clean up by going to start > run > cmd type cleanmgr.exe /dc /sageset: 1
select everything and click ok then open notepad and type:

cleanmgr.exe /dc /sagerun: 1
c:
cd\
cd C:\windows\prefetch
del *.* /q

save it as cleanup.bat somewhere. This will also clean prefetch. Open it every couple of days.

Don't forget to email me to get hundreds of more ways to do this.

What is the prefetch folder? It looks like the processes that are running. What is the purpose of the folder? Do I absutely need it? Will it affect anything if I clean it out?

Off late, there are some malwares which create large size junk files to
harass you. You may have got your PC infected by those malwares
when you visited way out sites.

Download this freeware file manager:

www.freeCommander.com

Click on "Folder" in the menu.
Click on "Size of folders".
It will give you the size occupied by each folder.
Which ever folder occupies large space, click on each and
check for junk files. Press "Del" on each of them.
They will be moved to the Recycle bin.
Click on the Recycle bin and epmpty it.
Do it in steps.
