Hard Drive Full...

My friend's laptop's 40GB hard drive is completely full and he can't get windows to start now. I tried booting from a copy of BartPE but the explorer tool I used didn't show the C drive as something available to use...
What sort of tool can I use to delete some unused files without having to lose massive ammounts of data?

If you can't boot and the drive doesn't show up in BartPE, I'd begin to suspect there are other problems besides being full. Have you tried running CHKDSK on the drive? Either though BartPE or a windows setup disk?

no, but I will...
And it could be that my friend just does terrible with verbal instructions. I've actually been trying to tell him what to do over the phone. I gave the BartPE disc to him and hoped that he could get it right.
So is it not normal for a computer to not boot from a hard drive just because it's full?

No I,ve never run across that, as far as not booting because the harddrive is full. I would say your friend has another problem going on.

I think if the hard drive is full it does not effect the window start up.
I use to hv hard disk full but still able to start mu window it could be another problem.

I suck at using recovery console... I can do a little with the windows command prompt, but when I use the recovery console it won't let me change the directory to C:\... How would you go about deleting stuff with recovery console? Or where can I go for instructions on how to do it?

Balls... that's not gonna be good news for my friend... He's got a lot of stuff that he probably wouldn't want to lose...
