Hard Drive Headache

Hi guys...

I have a roughly 4 year old 320GB WD Caviar.
The internal socket where the sata cable plugs in, has snapped. the plastic is stuck inside of the sata cable......

All i have is the metal pins inside the sata drive now.. I have to carefull connect the 2 without bending any pins. Which takes a while.

Anyway...
My drive keeps power cycling randomly. Does it about 6? times a day....

have SMART Checked it, fine.... made sure the connections are in all the way, they are... my sata cables are clip on, and seing as the plug is still fine, and the socket wall is still fine the cable plug clips right in place without any problems....

This drive is used as storage, so I have no OS problems when it turns off.... but sometimes if i click the dodgy drive it will take a while to get going, you can hear it spin up.

Any ideas?

Is my almost 4 year old drive on its way out? Or is this dodgy connection to blame.

I'll try get a photo up.

The bugger that broke..

The Hard Drive. Works
The Power Cycling: So good So far!

That bit of plastic missing shouldn't have caused power cycling to it though, that's the data connection. Eitherway if it works all is good :D
