I have win xp pro 32 Bit 3. GB of RAM Athlone 64 Bit CPU
300 GB hard drive

I turned my PC off the other day and the very next day I turned it back on and it did the Post and Beeped then it never loaded win xp.

It gave now massage.

I put win xp CD in and did not boot from CD ROM.
But I put Ubuntu in and booted from this to copy all dta to other drive.

Turned PC off came backk to work on it and it came on and loaded win xp.

But it made some changes to Win Profile all Data was there but desktop it turned back to XP Theme and some other things.

So If my hard drive was over heated it would never change win Theme so this is not the problem.

Ran chkdsk /r and all whent good but gave me no report just ran on re start and booted back to desktop.

I ran cc cleanup and all is good. and ran Defrag and all is good.

Checked my dirty Bit and my Dirty Bit is not Dirty.

I put win xp pro CD in and ran Repair win xp installation.

But it takes me to Recover Console and command prompt.
I thought it would copy new system files back to hard drive. I thought maybe this is what is rong.

some win system files are bad.

So first I thought my drive was over heated but it would not make desktop change theme. And if I re start some times it will not load win and just hand on a black screen.

Can I some how use CHKDSK to check c: drive but give me a report?

And can I use Ubuntu to chach drive c: for system defects or something???????
 
To run a repair, dont use the first time it ask to hit R, thats the recovery Console. Let it load files and when it gets to the harddrive setup page, then hit R for a installation repair.

OK when I put win xp CD in and restart pc it just has
Install win xp as new.
Repair win xp that is on pc.
Exit setup.

If I hit Repair it takes me to press R and takes me to reovery console.

If I hit Install as new it starts the format.

Please tell me step by step???
I am not sure what you ment
