Hard drive help

I'm trying to help a friend out and he says his computer has a crap worth of capacity on his hard drive ( 75Gb ) His computer is running on Windows Vista
And as far as he told me, his computer is pretty old so I can see why it's a problem

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of taking things from one hard drive to the other so if anyone has any other ideas, I would appreciate it

If you just want to transfer everything to a new hard drive, the manufacturers provide tools that will move everything. (i.e. DiscWizard, Acronis True Image WD Edition, etc)

You can also clone the contents of the drive wholesale onto a larger one using a program such as CloneHD.

how would that software transfer programs that are installed already into the old hard drive?

It's a clone. It copies the contents of the old drive onto the new drive. You then install the new drive and it will be as if nothing has changed.
