i had a dell dem. 2350 and got a dell dem. 4600 i switched my hard drive over to the new pc(4600) and updated everything(drivers, windows updated. ect..) the pc was working great that whole day(the 4600 has better memory) when i got up the next day my antivirus had updated and said it need to restart, so i restarted the pc. but when it tried to load windows it stopped at the black screen where the vista windows logo comes up. my bios sees the hard drive and the hard drive spins. i even used another hard drive as a master and was able to go in a look through all my files on the hard drive. i have a lot of programs on this hard drive that i dont want to lose.(office 2007) i cloned the HDD but that gave the cloned hard drive the same issue( i did format the cloned hard drive and all partions are fine after being cloned) i used the vista install cd but that did not fix the issue. i have tried avast bootsector virus remover but this did not find a virus. i used Killdisk to see if any partions were deleted and 1.78mb's were so i undeleted and still no go. i am running dell demension 4600 with 2g ram windows vista 32 bit and a maxtor HDD any ideas would be great

i have done this with many computers and never had an issue.i even swapped my extra hdd in to 3 spare pc's and only had to refresh bios so it would see the hdd. plus the 4600 was running fine for 12hrs or so. i also put the hdd back in the 2350 and still the same issue. i am thinking some thing happened to the bootsector.
i have had issues when swapping a hdd from a hp or other to a dell but never swapping a dell to a dell.
