Hard drive keeps running

My HD in my desktop pc keeps running after I shut down. The drive light slowly blinks. The only way to make it stop is turn off the Power Supply switch or unplug the cord.
I'm thinking the HD is starting to go bad. Any clues???

Hard drive not shutting down

From the START menu, it won't shut down. Only when I unplug the PC or turn it off with the PS switch.

Open your case when your computer is turned off VIA the power button and listen to see what is making the racket.

Was it the HDD?

My OS is XP. The drive light blinks and the all (7) fans are turning real slow. I'm beginning to think PS problems.

Has anyone played around with your button settings, such as make it go to hibernate or standby once you press your power switch on your case?

Just to be sure go to here: Right click desktop > Properties > Screen Saver TAB > Click on the button "Power" > Advanced TAB > Under power buttons make sure that it says "Shut down" under "When I press the power button on my computer:"

Thanks, I tried all the power settings. All good. As a note, the system didn't won't to start up again when it was off earlier. it took 4 power on/off trys to boot up.

Most likely it is the powersupply. I do find it odd though that the mobo keeps the hdd spinning...

When was the last time you scanned for Spyware and Viruses? Make sure you update your definition files first though. Sounds to me like your computer might be a Zombie or you may have a Rootkit problem.
