Heya ppl,
i hav recently purchased a laptop HP dv6383ea which runs on Windows Vista Home Premium with 1 GB ram, 128 dedicated graphics and 160 GB Hard disk space...
My problem is tht after i got the laptop, i had only 143 GB left...
Now, day by day, the size seems to be reducing without me actually doing anything,
I hav only installed 3 softwares : Ares, Avast antivirus and Messenger Live.
Now i only hav 117 GB left...

Please help as at this rate of memory consumption , im afraid tht the hard drive wud reach 40 GB in no less than 2 months...

THANKS....
awaiting your replies/....:(

Hello and welcome to CF,

Vista will take up a fair bit of HDD space its self. But I think your getting worried over nothing. The only thing I can think of is that vista is backing your data up using the Windows Backup and Restore Center.

It will use up a certain amount of storage then it will stop. Have a look at the link for more info. Also you should be able to disable it if you fear it will use up to much memory.

Control Panel> Backup & Restore center...

Then under the 1st backup data button there is a change settings link.

Click on that and then you can change how often you back up your PC.

but do restore points take up tht much of space?
im worried coz i lost 5GB of disk space in just two days !!!

i also cannot chng backup settings, there is a link on the left hand side pane "Tasks"... under tht, there is a link which says : Create a restore point or change settings.
When i click tht , system properties pops up... i cant find a button or a link thr to make any further changes
