Hard Drive nearly full

I have a 1TB hard drive that is showing only 69GB free.

I have checked folders and found I am using the following

3.67GB AppData
3.87GB Documents
3.45GB Downloads
13.8GB Music
78.8GB Pictures

Other than standard software like windows, office etc I am not using anything memory hungry so am at a loss where all the storage is going.

I am using vista 64bit.

Any ideas?

If it needs memory, it uses RAM. Unless it wants more RAM than the machine has available. In that case it will use part of the harddrive as temporary RAM.
But that's a different story because we're not talking very much space when it does use it. So that's not the problem.

Is the 1TB partitioned?

No it is not partitioned.
 
You may the disk space that system restore uses set way too high. Also are you running any malware or virus programs?
 
Ok, then check the space that system restore is using and change it so it only uses like 5 percent of your total drive.
 
I checked with 7 pro.
start, right click computer then properties.
system protection
configure
You can delete restore points or and adj max usage.
(this may work for your system).
 
Thats why you are running out of space. Please follow step 2 on that same page and set the size to 25gb. That is 2.5 percent of your total disk space. You may set it lower if you want. But the lower you set it, the less restore points will be created.

Done that succesfully. Now have 647gb free.
