Hard Drive no boot

I am replacing the mobo of my friends old Celeron 366Mhz with a newer 750Mhz Duron so his computer will run a little faster. For some reason though, the hard drive will not boot to Windows XP. I can put the XP install disk in and see that there is a detectable XP installation because it allows me to overwrite the install. I dont want to reinstall XP right now so I didn't. Right now I have a CD drive on the secondary IDE channel and a HDD on the Primary. It is able to ask me to press a key to boot onto a CD and will do that fine but it just stays there if it I wait for it to boot to Windows. Any suggestions on what might have happened? Would wrong Master/Slave jumpers cause it not to boot because the drive is detected perfectly, it just doesn't boot to windows? This is kindof a ballpark question but does anyone have suggestions on what might be the prob?

EDIT:Also, the Hard Drive booted fine with the older computer.

Make sure the bios recognizes the HD. Also try booting up without the CDrom plugged it. You can also try setting the jumper to the CS (cable select) setting and boot up. Whenever there's a motherboard replacement, I would recommend a new install of Windows for an easier transition.
