Hi guys,

I have a hp compaq presario v2000 laptop nad recently i have received an error on the computer.

It wont run windows anymore and i get the "Unmountable_Boot_Volume" screen.

I have loaded in the original disk that i got with my com and tried chkdsk /r in recovery console and chkdsk /p and everytme i do this it says:

The drive you entered does not exist or is not valid....

I assume this means my hard drive is not valid right?

Is it time for a new hard drive?

Any help would be much appreciated....cheers

I'm thinking about two possibilities:
1. The HDD is not partitioned; use some partitioning utilities (like Partition Magic bootdisk) to partition it. That is possible if the laptop is new
2. If the laptop is old, and you had installed windows on it, than the HDD might be dead/dieing.

1. yea the hdd is not partitioned.
2. the laptop is from 2005 and windows xp was installed

I guess the hard drive could be coming to an end then.

Any tips as to where i go from here? Or do i just go out and buy a new hard drive?

Thanks a lot for your help

Also,

when i try to reinstall windows by booting from cd, it says,

"an error occurred on atapi 38155mb when trying to install windows"

that sounds like my hdd playing up right?

cheers again
