Hard Drive partition issue

Hello,

I had a C drive where my windows are installed. Some months later, I bought a new hard drive of 500GB which I divided in two pieces of 250GB. The thing is that only one of the two pieces is recognised by my computer, so my other 250GB piece is like that it does not exist.
Any suggestions?

What software did you use to partition the hard drive?
Did you tell it to format the second partition?
What OS is it? Vista? Win 7?

Did you create both partitions that you created, or did you just create one partition and not the other? (250GB + whatever unallocated space is left)
