Hard Drive problem/questions

I booted up my self-built computer for the first time and was letting XP format my Hard Drive, but during the middle of the formatting I had to turn off the comp because I thought something was wrong. Now, when I try to boot up my comp, it says error loading operating system. I'm thinking I have to reset my HDD. Is there anyway to do this through the BIOS? Or do I have to manually do something with the HDD?

One more thing. I have a DVD/CD-ROM and one 500 GB hard drive. I was admittedly a little confused about the whole master/slave thing. I want both of them to be master, right? How do I find this out? If they are slaves, how do I change them to master?

I have a Seagate Barracuda 500G HD SATA2
Thanks

umm i'm no pro at this...but what i did was set the hardrive as the master and dvd drive as slave. what you want to do is either set the jumpers to cable select or easir way to is just set the jumper to either SLAVE or MASTER...i dont have a sata drive though..but im sure that they dont use jumpers...anyone want to clarify?? and maybe u should go into the bios..and set bopttorder to cd rom...then load setup windows agasin.

I changed the order of the drives in Bios but to no avail. The BIOS is saying that both my DVD-CD ROM and my HDD are slave drives as well. There is a jumper on my ROM, which I thought was on master, but there is not one on my HDD. I will check my ROM again, but I'm pretty stumped right now

It is a lot easier to set it to cable select, I dont thin your dvd-rom is SATA but either way, if they are found by bios then you are fine, It kind of sounds like you dont have a OS on right now!?!?!?!?!

It does not really matter which one of your DVD Rom/CD Rom is the master or slave as both can read your windows xp installation disk.Basically just set the CD Rom or DVD rom to boot first in your Setup utility, reboot and let the xp setup reformat and re-install windows again.
