Hey guy's. kinda new to this. i have the hard drive out of my old computer, it is only a 40g. it came out of a retail bought desktop about 4-5 years ago. I now have a custom build setup that i am very happy with. problem is i want to get some stuff off my old hard drive on to my new one or even just view some of it, is there a low jack way it can be done? i am not that good with computers but was hoping you guy's could help me. if you need any info or pic's i can send them to you.

regards. kurtus

well you said the hard drive is old then it must be an IDE, just open you r computer, look for a spare ide connector , see below :

and connect the drive to it. but make sure the jumper configuration is correct.

Now if you can't do the above, go to a store near you and ask them if they have an external enclosure (specify and tell them your hard drive is IDE). buy it, the easiest solution if you don't know hardware

ok. i have done that. but when i said new at this i mean like new new. i have the hard drive plugged in to ide and a power supply to it but now how do i access it?

when you go in "my computer" is it there ? or when you've logged in windows, does it say new hardware detected or something ?

I have some pics if you need me to send them to you.
just post them here in this thread
