Hard drive problems

I just upgraded everything in my computer except the hard drive. I has been working fine for the past week. Last night, I was on this forum and it started clicking and my computer froze. I tried to reboot and it said the drive was bad. I installed windows on an older drive and now I am trying to access the one that froze so that I can retrieve the data. The problem is, my computer won't even recognize that the drive is there. The drive spins but it clicks while trying to read. Is there anyway to trick my computer into giving me access just for a little bit. I had pictures of my 3 month old son on there and I really don't want to lose them.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to say but it sound dead, hate that about your kids photos. There places you can send them to and retrieve data but I,ve heard it cost a arm and leg! Need to get a burner and keep things backed up.

I have a burner. I had just combined 2 40G drives onto this 80 less than a week ago. I went camping this weekend and planned on backing up when I got back. I got home yesterday and was browsing around for about 5 minutes and it crashed. I didn't have a chance to use it. Also, there was absolutely no warning when the drive crashed. I have had drives fail before, but they always started making horrible noises beforehand.

Dont know if you did but you could try a different cable but if the older drive works on the same cable I dont think that would be it. I dont usually suggest doing this but I have got mad a banged them on the counter and they have worked long enough to get some data off them:D, but then again sometimes it has not worked.

You can also try putting it in the freezer for a few minutes to see if that will work long enough to get your data off the drive. And just for your info, hard drives can go out at any time with or without having intermittent problems/noises. I run Raid 1 just for that reason. I don't have very good luck with hard drives. I have a samsung and a western digital both are 250 gb and every now and then the western digital will start clicking and freeze my system. So, what I do is take it out of my system and put it another system of mine, reformat it and put it back into original system and let it rebuild the raid and it works great until the next time it does it. usually a month or so in between. Drive is only a few months old and have ran diagnostic utility on it but have came up negative on error codes.
