I was wondering, can I attach my 200gb hard drive, and have it as a secondary hard drive for storing files, and have access to them easily, so it would be an extension to my first hard drive, but no OS.

Thanks.

I don't really understand what you want to do. It kind of sounds like you want to span yout partition across a couple disks. You could just install the drive and use it as 200GB of storage under a different drive letter. You don't need to span disks

You can install the 200GB drive in your computer and it will be a secondary drive, which can be used to store files and such, but you cant make it an "extension" of your current drive, unless you setup RAID.

Alright.

I might want to do it later tonight. I am pretty sure theres something on the hard drive, can I just plug it in a sata port, no matter whats on the OS, make sure my main hard drive boots first, and take care of it when I boot up?

Also, I assume the sata port goes into the purple sata port, on my mother board?

I have 6 ports all together, 4 are yellow, and 2 are purple.

And can I mess up my current drive at all?

Thanks.

Just plug the hard drive into an open SATA port, and connect the SATA power connector. Then make sure you're booting from the hard drive with the OS in it, and the 2nd hard drive will show up as just another hard disk in your my computer.

And no, unless you do something really stupid, such as yanking a power connector while the computer is on, you can't mess up your current drive.
