Hi I'm new here and hope I'm not double posting and in the right area. I have a Toshiba Satellite and the hard drive crashed had a friend give me Toshiba notebook with a broken screen. I installed the hard drive into my Toshiba Satellite from the notebook and it works but still shows it as the the notebook instead of the Satellite. Is there anyway to make the hard drive from the notebook recognize being in the laptop instead without wiping the hard drive and installing windows 7 again? Or will I even be able to make the hard drive recognize it's in a different computer?

actually you are lucky it booted at all.you cant use an operating system from one machine to another and so will have to install windows again.

well I'm online talking on here lol only thing is the notebook has windows 7 starter not the full edition and the notebook hard drive still showing it and not my laptop. Wondering if I get the full windows 7 and install it if the hard drive will show my laptop and not the notebook.

Once you reinstall OS the drive will be wiped so it won't have any information from the old system.

Okay I see why I was confused. You mean you took the harddrive out of a NETBOOK, not a notebook (A Toshiba Satellite is a Notebook).

No, you'll need to reinstall Windows to get a full version of Windows 7.

Got the hard drive out of a mini notebook according to Toshiba. I'm planning on upgrading from windows 7 starter to the full version. But don't know if I should pay a friend $20-$25 to install it. Or buy a downloadable version for $50 and whether I need a 32 or 64 bit.

No I had a friend install windows 7 full version on my laptop before the hard drive crashed the notebook has windows 7 starter edition. Wondering if I should pay my friend $20-$25 to install the full version again or buy the downloadable version for $50.

You should have a license for Windows on the bottom of the laptop. All you need is the DVD to install Windows.

the notebook my friend gave me had windows 7 starter and my computer says that the product key is wrong. And the hard drive out of my laptop won't do anything the laptop doesn't even recognize it anymore plus the laptop originally came with vista I think. So I'll either have to pay my friend again or buy a downloadable version.
