i had an external hard drive(sata 300gb - somewhat like this http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=440), but the external part broke(usb), the hard drive itself should work just fine, it has more storage than my current hard drive(150gb) in my lap top (asus f3sv) í have currently installed,i have for the moment windows vista installed since im going to upgrade to windows 7 maybe i could replace the 150 gb HD with the 300 gb hd

my question is what do i need to do this, is it hard?

Firstly, make sure you have backed up the data from the bigger hard drive.

What will you need? A small screwdriver. Thats it, nothing else.

I think the Asus has a panel on the back for the hard drive, if not, there are four screws "round the back" where the hinges are. Remove the screws and slide the cover towards ya.

Hopefully, the hard drive will be there somewhere, possibly in a caddy.

Remove old drive from caddy, insert new drive and reverse what I have just said above.

sure that sounds too easy

no need for any kind of installation on the new hd ? what abaut drivers or bios or stuff like that?

That looks like a 2.5" drive, so you are good to go, there.

Gary covered the physical installation pretty well. As long as your laptop uses the same drive type (SATA), then you should be good to go. Some laptops have an adapter that goes from the SATA port on the drive and interfaces it with the laptop, don't forget to move that, if one is used in your laptop.

Your laptops BIOS should recognize the drive.

As for software... well, with a new drive you will have to install a new operating system, or transfer the old one form the old drive to the new one.
